If saying that Jesus' claim to "I am one with the Father" makes him God, then Jesus actually asked his Father to make his disciples God as well!
To start off, let me make sure you all know that the translation of Son of God literally means 'Servant of God.' You can research it yourself. I would further like to point out that Jesus habitually spoke Aramaic. The word he used for God was 'Allahi.' Look familiar? it should. the Aramaic word 'Allahi' translated into Arabic is 'Allah.' So, with that, let us begin.
I would like to turn to John Chapter 17, which is entitled Jesus prays for himself. The first words out of Jesus' mouth in this prayer are "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son [servant], that your Son [servant] may glorify you."
Right off the bat, Jesus asks God to glorify him. Now, if Jesus was God, wouldn't he just have to snap his fingers and he would be glorified? Remember, Jesus says that only his Father can glorify him.
Second sentence is pretty amazing. "For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him."
Does this sound like something that God would say, or a Servant of God? 'For YOU GRANTED him authority.' The 'him' in this sentence pertaining to Jesus, the 'you' pertaining to God. Now, if you say Jesus is your God, why would Jesus need to be 'granted authority' over mankind? Wouldn't he already posess the authority? If you read the Bible, you will see that Jesus never once takes credit for the miracles he did. Always referred to God.
Third line doesn't help your argument either. "Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, AND JESUS CHRIST, WHOM YOU HAVE SENT."
Now, if Jesus is God, why does he refer to the Father as the ONLY TRUE GOD, then refers to himself as a messenger? If Jesus was God, it would make more sense to say 'Now this is eternal life: that they may know me as their Lord' but Jesus never said that.
Next we have: "I have brought you glory on earth by completeing the work you gave me to do."
So, Jesus is telling God that he has finished all the work that he was given. Remember that the Crucifixion has not taken place, and since Jesus is now done with his tasks, dying for our sins is not what he was required to do.
Verse five: "And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began."
So, Jesus was with God before the world began, yet we all were. God created all the souls at once, so we were all glorified in God's presence before the world began.
John 17:11 states "I will remain in this world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you, Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name - the name you gave me - SO THAT THEY MAY BE ONE AS WE ARE ONE."
This is the major passage that most would rather overlook when speaking about Jesus' supposed claims to divinity. So, if Jesus is God, and God is Jesus, wouldn't they already be combined as one entity already? So that would mean they wouldn't be separate, but One as well in heaven. This is not logical, as Jesus wishes his disciples to become One, now, Jesus taught us that anything born from a woman is too unclean to compare to God [hint hint] and since his disciples are woman born... they cannot be even considered equal to God. The only logical answer we have for this is that Jesus was claiming a spiritual connection with God. Nothing more, Nothing less.
Moses' people asked Moses to show them God, yet there was lightning and thunder all around, so this is telling us that they are 'seeing God' through miraculous things. Now, tell me whether seeing a Leper being healed by touch is not seeing God. Remember also that nobody can see God's 'face' and live, so if Jesus was God, why didn't everyone die when they saw his face?
