Women's Abortion Signs Get Better Reception at President Bush's
Rally
Orlando, FL (LifeNews.com) -- After campaign staffers for
Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry destroyed their
signs saying their abortions hurt them, Rebecca Porter and her
friend Cindy decided to try their luck with the signs at a rally
for President George W. Bush. The difference was amazing. In an
exclusive LifeNews.com story earlier this month, Porter said Kerry was "shocked and surprised" to see her sign, which read "My Abortion Hurt Me." A Kerry campaign staffer tore it to shreds moments later saying, "You can't have that sign here." The Kerry campaign has refused to comment on the matter. Rebecca and Cindy then went to a recent Bush event in Orlando to try their luck. On the back of their signs, they taped the message "Thank you President Bush for being Pro-Life." Those attending the Bush event overwhelmed Rebecca and Cindy with their positive response to the signs. "It was wonderful to be there. The rally was like a whole different world from Kerry's," Porter explained.

Michigan House Fails Second Overide Attempt on Parental Consent
Abortion Bill
Lansing, MI (LifeNews.com) -- For the second time, the Michigan state House failed to find enough votes to override pro-abortion Gov. Jennifer Granholm's veto of legislation that tightens the parental consent law allowing parents to be involved in their teenage daughter's abortion decisions. The House on Tuesday voted 68-35 in favor of the override, but the vote was five short of what was needed. In February, the House came three votes shy of overriding the veto. Pro-life groups say the bill is needed to stop the judicial bypass in the law from being abused. According to the State Court Administrative Office, up to 800 bypasses are applied for each year and approximately 90% of those judicial bypass waivers are granted. But even with the problems, the number of abortions performed on minors has been cut by over 55%.

South Carolina Choose Life Plate Declared Unconstitutional, State Will Appeal
Columbia, SC (LifeNews.com) -- A federal appeals court has declared that South Carolina's "Choose Life" license plate is unconstitutional, but the state has already indicated it will appeal the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court. A three judge panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals says the plates violate the First Amendment because they give a forum for pro-life advocates to present their views, but not abortion supporters. But South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster indicates he plans to appeal the decision and says abortion advocates were not discriminated against because they never applied for their own plate.

Georgia State Senate Votes to Move Choose Life Plate Forward
Atlanta, GA (LifeNews.com) -- The Georgia state Senate approved an amendment to license plate legislation creating a "Choose Life" plate for their state. The measure to create a pro-adoption plate was amended to HB 1253, a bill that would allow widows of Medal of Honor winners to continue to use their spouses specialty plate after the recipient had died. Becuase adding the Choose Life plate is a change to the original bill, the legislation returns to the House for approval. However, there are only five days left in the Georgia legislative session, thus a narrow window of opportunity to approve the bill.

Maryland Pro-Life Unborn Victims of Violence Bill Gets Panel's Approval
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Legislation in Maryland that would hold criminals accountable when they kill or injure an unborn child in the course of an attack on a pregnant women is moving forward. The bill received the approval of a state Senate committee after a hearing last week. The Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee voted 7-4 to approve the bill, which now heads to the full Senate for consideration. Panel members received a letter from Sharon Rocha, the mother of Laci Peterson -- who was killed along with her unborn child two years ago just one month before she was ready to give birth. California law, unlike that of Maryland, allows criminals to be charged with two counts of murder when both mother and child die. "Laci knew that Conner was her son, and I know it too. Two people, Laci and Conner, would be here with us today if they had not been murdered. There were two victims in this crime, not one," Rocha says.

New Hampshire State House Sends Unborn Victims Bill to Study Committee
Concord, NH (LifeNews.com) -- Members of the New Hampshire state House have voted 263-69 to send legislation to a study committee that would ensure criminals are charged with two crimes when they attack pregnant women and kill or injure their unborn children. Rep. Robert Giuda, R-Warren, described how his eight-month sister-in-law was involved in an automobile accident and lost her unborn child just weeks before birth. The driver wasn't charged and didn't even receive a ticket as a result of the baby's death. "Innocent people's lives are shattered and we have no recourse under the law," he said.
