ArchivedWhat does the Bible say on women, sexuality, slavery, etc. ?Your information about the origin of AIDS is lacking in truth. Although AIDS was first recognized and became a public health concern in the U.S. in 1981, tests of stored blood from the 1956 Ebola outbreak found 8% of the samples to be HIV+. There is absolutely no reason to take this as prohibiting or teaching that sex is evil. These are simple rules concerning sanitation. Disease can be spread by fluids produced in the human body, and it is simply good sense to view personal physical cleanliness as important. BTW, if you think using xian in lieu of Christian is an insult, think again. X is the first letter in the Greek for Christ and xian is an abbreviation with historical precedence. Adultery may not be harmful to the adulterer, but it is psychologically harmful to the adulterers family. With self determination comes taking responsibility for your own actions. People who choose to accept the authority of the Bible have made a personal choice, and if these people are the majority in any society they also have the right to legislate their morality. Islam, Hinduism, and other religious beliefs treat women, slaves, and sexuality with rules that are as harsh or worse than the Bible. Christianity does not require a wife to emulate herself on her husband funeral pyre. You are appealing to Laws given to the Hebrews while totally ignoring the laws and cultural standards of other cultures of the time, which were not as lenient towards slaves, women, etc. In the modern Christian world slavery is illegal, but slavery is still practiced in some Islamic controlled cultures. Compare treatment of women in the industrialized Christian west with their treatment in Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Your whole premise is not based on truth but prejudice against a faith that lifts personal responsibility above selfish irresponsible human acts. |
