Well, the problem is, we don't know what to do. My grandmother's mental capacity is declining day by day, and my grandfather has a bad back, which means that he can't lift Grandma when she falls. Also, he's a great big baby who doesn't know the first thing about taking care of himself. He's always been this way, somehow talking my father into doing things for him. Well, my father is going through his own problems, and he'll be going through chemo and radiation therapy for the next few weeks. So of course, he has to focus mostly on getting better. I have no experience in taking care of the elderly, but my sister does. She helped take care of not one, but two elderly women, who had nothing but wonderful things to say about her.
So when we found out how expensive the care facility would be, my father devised what he thought was going to be the perfect plan: my sister would move into the grandparents' house and take care of our grandmother, and she would be well-paid. Everything was fine and dandy, until today, when my grandfather called my sister a "Lazy fat ass," among other things. So now, we're estranged from our grandparents, and it's just one great big mess. I'm miserable. My sister's self-esteem has bottomed out. My grandfather is probably running around like a chicken with its head cut off. My parents are furious. And meanwhile, my grandmother is attempting to starve herself to death. Hopefully, my grandfather had enough sense to contact my grandmother's sister, who's offered to take care of Grandma and help Grandpa figure out what's going to happen.
I honestly don't know what to do!
