PALM BEACH -- Applied Digital Solutions Inc. has signed a letter of intent to acquire DTS, a German research company, to help accelerate Applied Digital's development and commercialization of its Thermo Life product.
DTS of Halle, Germany, pioneered the development of the original technology, Applied Digital said in a press release Tuesday. Financial terms weren't disclosed.
The company also said it has succeeded in its goal of generating 3 volts of electrical power from its device, which is powered by body heat.
Thermo Life uses thin-film technology that creates electrical energy output out of low heat flow. The difference between body temperature and the surrounding environment is enough to power the generator to keep a small battery charged.
The battery is a half-inch, ceramic-based device that does not require replenishment. Applied Digital hopes this product will be used to power smoke detectors, watches and medical devices.
Applied Digital is in the process of applying for patent protection to cover any improvements made to Thermo Life.
Applied Digital will also change the name of its unit, Advanced Power Solutions, to Thermo Life Energy Corp.
