Q: Is it true you say the rosary every day?
Jim Caviezel: Mary has always been there for me. Mary is there to grab her Son’s hand and our hand and put them together. People don’t understand the power of the rosary. There is a different kind of sight, a spiritual sight. When you pray the rosary, whatever is covering your eyes is taken away. There is a reason why our Blessed Mother in all her apparitions on earth keeps insisting that we pray. There was a point in my life when I got tired of being mediocre. I was tired of all the pain in my soul. So I started praying the rosary really from my heart, not just lip service. The next day I went through this horrible darkness inside. It was very painful. Like a purging process. It’s something I had never gone through before. After I went through it, I said, if this is what will be necessary to get closer to God I will go through it.
Q: Working in Hollywood brings with it a lot of spiritual temptations. What kind of advice would you give young Catholics who feel called to be actors?
Jim Caviezel: Whatever walk in life you pursue, you are always going to be put to the test. Go to Mass. Receive the sacraments seriously. It seems to me that as regards the journey with God, you can have a ripple effect in the water, or you can really move in to the deep. If you want to move into the deep experience of God, you have to move away from sin. You have to be a soul in motion and sincerely want to become a saint.

Jim Caviezel: The catharsis for me to play this role was through Medjugorje, through Gospa. In preparation, I used all that Medjugorje taught me. Mel Gibson and I were going every day for Mass together. Some days I couldn’t go for Mass, but I was receiving the Eucharist. Somewhere along the line, I heard that the Pope was going for confession every day, so I thought that I should go for confession as often as possible. I didn’t want the Lucifer to have any control over the performance. We have sins of commission, but also sons of commission. My sin of omission continuously is that I don’t love enough. So, the confession was the preparation for the Eucharist. Ivan Dragicevic and his wife Lorraine gave me a piece of the true cross. I kept this on me all the time. They made a special pocket in my clothes for it. I also had relics of Padre Pio, St. Anthony of Padoua, Ste Maria Goretti, and saint Denisius, the Patron saint of Actors. Another thing was fasting. I read many of the messages continuously. Every day everyone could see me with the rosary in my hands.
Jim Caviezel: Through one’s own life. It is not what we say but what we do. I dedicate my work to Her Son, I dedicate all that I do to Her Son. I ask Mary to guide me and my career. You can convert people only by living your life. This film is something that I believe was made by Mary for her Son. Because it was made by her, it will be attacked by the enemy. In the USA, this film is under major scrutiny because of the truth that it brings. By living the truth, you will also be persecuted, the enemy will attack you, but have no fear, Our Lord will send his help and give you strength. And you will inherit heaven.
This post is NOT about the movie, and does NOT draw and conclusions about the movie itself, positive or negative. The post is a scriptural based analysis of what the actor portraying the Lord Jesus Christ has SAID in specific quotations, off camera.
Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
So with a ready mind, let's examine what this actor as said, and search the scriptures, "whether those things were so." In the analysis, we'll find several ironies that this particular actor is portraying the Lord Jesus Christ.
In other threads, some were intensely and emotionally upset that a simple question such as "is the guy even saved?" was asked. I was told we should "not judge his heart." For the purposes of this post, let's follow that line of thought. Instead, we won't judge his heart, we'll judge and measure what he has SAID against scripture, which is what every "Berean" is supposed to do.
Matthew 15:11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
Matthew 15:18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
The problem with the line that line of thought ("we should not judge his heart") is that scripture actually indicates that what proceeds from the mouth, comes from the heart, so in the end there really is no difference, anyhow. "What saith scripture?"
For the purposes of this post, we'll "go" with that logic, and give the actor the benefit of the doubt. We'll make the assumption that he is saved, and is the member of the body of Christ, a brother in Christ. Scripture is quite clear that the body of Christ is supposed to judge the company we keep.
I Corinthians 5:11-13 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.
Any actor that would portray the Lord Jesus Christ would, obviously, be a sinner like any other man (Romans 3:23). That is not the issue. Assuming that he is saved, is this actor rooted, built up, and stablished in the faith? (Colossians 2:7) In the citations above, the actor is clearly making specific recommendations and encoraging specific doctrines to others. He is preaching a "gospel." How does his doctrine and "gospel" compare with scripture and "sound doctrine?"
Titus 1:9-10 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:
II Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
There are several things in the actors statements which are contrary to scripture and sound doctrine. As the actor is portraying the Lord Jesus Christ, these things that are contrary are quite ironic.
Irony #1 - The actor portraying the Lord Jesus Christ is an active (not former) idol worshipper
In the interviews above, the actor clearly is an active (not former, which is a BIG difference) idol worshipper in Mary (he prays to her, believe she guides him) and Rosary (he believes there is power in it). Again, assuming that he is a brother in Christ, he has yet to flee from idolatry. "What saith scripture?"
I Corinthians 10:14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.
Galatians 5:20-21 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Idolatry is named a work of the flesh, and is grouped together with other works of the flesh. Scripture (I Corinthians 5:11-13) is quite clear that if any man that is called a brother in Christ is an idolator, that we are not to keep company with him. He is to be "put away."
Irony #2 - The actor portraying the Lord Jesus Christ believes Mary is the intermediary between man and Christ
In the interviews above, the actor clearly believes that Mary is the intermediary between man and Christ - "Mary is there to grab her Son’s hand and our hand and put them together." Now, "what saith scripture?"
I Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus
Scripture is quite clear that the Lord Jesus Christ is the mediator between God and man, not Mary.
Irony #3 - The actor portraying the Lord Jesus Christ does not believe in the finished work of the cross
In the interviews above, the actor clearly believes in the "ongoing" work of the Mass. "What saith scripture?"
John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
Romans 6:10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
Irony #4 - The actor portraying the Lord Jesus Christ is spreading another gospel
Based on the three ironies above and the interviews above, the actor who portrays the Lord Jesus Christ is clearly spreading another gospel. He is clearly encourgaing people to "Go to Mass...Receive the sacraments" etc., etc. Again, for clarification, we are talking about the statements above, not the movie. "What saith scripture" about someone that spreads another gospel?
Galatians 1:6-10 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
This post is NOT about the movie, and does NOT draw and conclusions about the movie itself, positive or negative. The post is a scriptural based analysis of what the actor portraying the Lord Jesus Christ has SAID in specific quotations, off camera.
Again, we are giving the benefit of the doubt that this actor is saved, and is a member of the body of Christ. According to scripture, and based on what this actor is "preaching," the body of Christ is to "put him away" and to "accurse" him (i.e. set him apart). The actor is peddling idolatry and spreading another gospel.
Why do other members of the body of Christ find this so difficult? The "political correctness" of neo-evangelism flys totally against scripture. The answer lies (pun intended) in our fleshly nature. The "heart" of our fleshly nature lies to us, and tells us things are right when they are wrong, and vice versa.
Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
We need to replace our thoughts with His. Our thoughts need to be based on the word of God rightly divided. In the passage from Galatians 1 above, the Holy Spirit through the Apostle Paul is very blunt, and even repeats the accursed (set apart) statement. The very next verse is a direct and immedate answer to any objection of "harshness."
Galatians 1:11 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ

I hope people will read through my last 2 posts carefully, a few times if need be, and seek the Lord in prayer, this is not a matter about 'bashing the movie' and 'oh hes seeking to divide the church' ... Its about seeing where this movie stands in light of the scripture.
Please give back any views on this, and let me know if this has changed your views on this movie. The Ecumenical movement has started, and we need to be careful not to get caught up into false doctrines, even though it may appear to be just a 'movie' from the outside.
God bless.
