ArchivedSome un-scientific Quranic versesFirm mountains? -> No shaking? Seismic flaw in the Quran! After reading this we can pose some questions: . Where are the mountainous areas on the earth located? See figure 1. (below) . Where are the major seismic/earthquake zones located on the earth? And how often do earthquakes happen? See figure 2. (below) . What is the spatial relation between mountainous areas and earthquake zones? Compare fig. 1 with fig. 2 Fig.1 - the earth's (continental) mountainous areas Fig. 2 - the earth's seismic zones (epicenters of earthquakes in a 35 year period) sources: Fig. 1: http://www.geog.ouc.bc.ca/physgeog/contents/10k.html Fig. 2: http://denali.gsfc.nasa.gov/dtam/seismic/ :!: Conclusion: Earthquakes happen 'all the time' (according to fig. 2: 358,214 earthquakes in 35 years = 10,234 each year = 28 each day = 1.16 each hour) and they are concentrated along specific zones, in which mountainous areas are also concentrated. Therefore, claims that mountains are firm and immovable, and that mountains prevent the earth from shaking are in-correct & un-scientific. ... and an extra image that depicts the continents a bit clearer than the second figure above: Fig. 3 - the earth's seismic zones (earthquakes in a 5 year period) source: http://www.iris.edu/edu/onepagers/Hi-Res/OnePager2.pdf a sidenote: As we know from history and seismology, and as we also can see in figures 2 & 3, the mountains in western Arabia ARE relatively stable (heavy earthquakes happen less frequently there).... but the same can not be said of the major mountain ranges of the world.... .... seems like the author of the Quran took the relatively stable mountains of western Arabia as an example for his book, but lacked real-live experience and geological knowledge regarding the shakyness & quakyness of the rest of the world's major mountain ranges... ops: |
