Bible StudyIs the NIV for real???may be this is old ground as I quickly skimmed through the lists of posts. But all Bibles in English would surely fall into that category then? We'd all have to learn arabiac or something which it a tall task to be able to read the bible. Is it therefore better to have not read any of the translated bible if its in English because some meanings may well be lost in translation, than it is to try and read it and be aware of these issues. I know of that many people take the bible literally. Some people even view the bible as a christian book. Which only dawned on me this year, by the way, that the Old Testament cannot be christian because it was written before Jesus was born, never mind died and resurrected. I am not one of those people who read the bible and interpret it as literal. I read it mainly because its expected. I don't read it all the time. Just when I feel like it. Not a particular good christian on that score. It is a pity Horsemen Bree isn't on this website as you'd get an indepth view point of the Old Testament which he was well into. So my question is, is it a waste of time reading the bible because it is not authentic? I wonder how that would go with Priests? |
