Hi
I am new to this list and have found quite a number of subjects quite interesting. And sense there are a few underlying ideas which give me rather mixed messages about issues in my own life. Issues which do impact strongly on my walking with Gd.
You see I was born without any viable reproductive tract. This is down to my being unable to produce certain hormones. The "medical definition" of my condition is "intersex" Though I prefer to see myself as a woman with a metabolic condition.
But because of this I am by nature celibate. Now I can never fully understand the mainstream Christian standpoint. I have "XY" chromosomes, (Which actually means very little because genes not the packaging, namely chromosomes determine sex). To some people that makes me "male" (Cant see how) And I get hit with all this stuff about
"male" and "female" and "Gd made two sexes and nothing in between".
Yes but what about CAIS, AIS, 5 alpha reductase deficiency, Swyers syndrome, Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia, the list goes on.
Where does this all place me in the mainstram scheme of things I wonder?
You see I read a lot of people talking about "sexual" sin but it all seems to have a lot to do with some idealisation of what is male or female. If it is family Values, it is this strict ideal about roles and fertility.
My faith in Gd is often shaken quite strongly when people talk in idealisations rather than actual conscious choices. Someone (Mainstream Christian) once accused me of having an "intersexual lifestyle" Which I found quite offensive as it happens. You do not choose to be born with a metabolic disorder. I often wonder if mainstream christianity, in this collective need to assert "heterosexual lifestyles" Is sort of aiming the sexual morality arguments at the wrong people?
I am a messianic Jew, My Faith lies with the sacrifice Jshua (Jesus) made
so that my actual sins. (There are many, mainly anger, not surprisingly)
can be forgiven.
And I happen to be celibate by nature. Is this celibacy sinful because it is rooted in a condition I happened to be born with?
I admit I find many comments (Even on this list) somewhat confusing. I just wonder what is defined as sin and what is not sometimes.
thankyou for your time.
All the best to you
Sophie.
