To me, there's a simple way to answer this question.
Sometimes pain and suffering brings something good.
Take, for instance, what happened in Egypt. The Pharoah was being stupid and arrogant, and he refused to let the Jews go. It took the death of his firstborn son to make him change his opinion.
The good: Moses and his people were finally free.
And then, of course, there's the pain a woman must endure during childbirth.
The bad: Mind-numbing, excruciating pain that makes a woman feel as though she's trying to push a log truck out of her. (Or so I'm told.)
The good: A child that this woman and, hopefully, her husband will love, nurture, raise, and find joy in.
Probably not the answer you're looking for, but that's the best I have.
