Bible History ResearchMoney and the BiblePreacherintraining , and Aineo are right. It is not money, but the love of money that is evil. And preacherintraining is right by saying, Jesus does not mean that all rich Christians should give up ALL they have to the poor. Jesus specifically said to that one rich man to give up all his money because that rich man claimed to have followed all the commandments. And Jesus said, "If you are perfect, give all your posessions to the poor." In a case like that, if you wanted to be a Christian, you would have to do as Jesus says. Jesus was there pyhsically at the time, and you will not be lacking in anything once you were following Him (Luke 22:35). But to say that the rich Christians in this day and age have to give up everything that they have is not the idea Jesus was trying to spread. As Aineo quoted, "To whom much is given, much will be required." Jesus just warns you to not be a miser, but share the weath (Luke 12:16-21). Some Christians just decide to give all helterskelter and lackadaisical without thinking and make foolish decisions just giving away all they have, when Jesus is not even telling them to do that specifically. |
