The reason that he asked the rich young ruler to give up his money was because he knew that without doing so the man would never be saved. It was never meant to be a general rule. In acts 5 people were struck down not for selling their stuff and keeping some of it, but because they lied. Also, how about in the parable of the talents when Jesus says, "(29) For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath." |
