ArchivedMarriageThe bible will show you how polygamy was against God's commandment: First off, when Isreal decided to have a king, it was the people's choice. Isreal saw that all the pagan nations surrounding them had a king and they wanted that. God did not want this, because God wanted to be their King. His anger was kindled because they rejected Him and did not obey His commandments. So God decided to give them what they want. As you can see in Deuteronomy 17:14-17, God prophesied that in the future Isreal would have kings (ex: Saul, David, Solomon), but in verse 17 God specifically said that a King of Isreal shall not multiply wives to himself. When Solomon did this, that was one of his transgressions against God. All the kings of Isreal disobeyed God's commandments. Saul gave a sacrifice outside of the congregation and was not patient to wait on Samuel, plus he wanted to murder David. David killed a husband of a wife and committed adultery with her (Bathsheeba). And Solomon, eventhough he was wise, still sinned against God by having multiple wives, which God said was not to be done LONG before Isreal had a king. Just because someone is wise, does not mean they are perfect and sinless. |
