ArchivedMarriageThe prophets themselves were sinners and sometimes did things God did not tell them to. Did God tell Abraham to have sex with his wife's servant? Look at the the problems Abraham had when he did that. God promised Abraham a child that would create a nation (Isreal), and since his wife was old, he did not believe that child was going to come from his wife Sarah. So he went into her servant. This is what forced him to marry again, his lack of patience and trust in God. But the child the servant beared was not the child God promised. Abraham acted in his OWN will and not God. Abraham is called the father of faith, but he was not ALWAYS faithful. That's one example, and the other example of his unfaithfulness was when he lied to the king by saying Sarah was his sister instead of his wife, because he was afraid the king would kill him because his wife was beautiful. God was displeased at this, because Abraham was afraid while God was with Him. Moses was also unfaithful at times. God told him that he should be the spokeperson of Isreal. But Moses did not like the idea because he thought he could not speak efficiently. So God made Moses' brother Aaron the speaker for Moses. Look at the problems that generated from Moses not listening to God initially and questioning his word: One of Aaron's sons were killed in front of Isreal for being disobedient. Aaron made a golden god for Isreal to worship, while Moses was with God in the mountain going over the commandments. Aaron was in some cases, a thorn in Moses' side. Then you have the incident where Moses did not hearken to God's voice when he hit the rock in frustration against Isreal instead of speaking to it as God told Him so it can bring forth water, therefore hindering his journey to step into the promised land. So just because a prophet does something, that does not justify their actions. The only one we are to model and follow is Jesus. |
