ArchivedEleven questions and excuses. The creation story is not a scientific thesis. The Hebrew word for created from nothing is "bara" and is used only in Genesis 1:1, 21, and 27 where God created all living animals. The internal evidence found in the Bible does not contain sufficient information to dogmatically state the universe was created in 6 literal 24-hour days. In fact the Hebrew word translated "day" can also be translated "eon", "age", "came to pass" and "brought to pass". The Bible speaks to the “Day of the Lord” and I don’t believe anyone believes this is one 24-hour day. There is some internal evidence in Scripture that Genesis 1:2 and following is not the original creation, but a recreation. This can be surmised, but not proven from Jeremiah 4:23 and In this verse "in vain" is the same Hebrew word translated "formless" in Gen 1:2. What is important about Genesis 1 is "In the beginning God created" and the Sabbath or the 7th day, which plays an important on-going status in Scripture. Many evangelical Christians don't accept the 1 chapter of Genesis as literal, so you question is more divisive than anything else. As to discrepancies in the Gospels, list them. |
