Last answer for you Sane, I hope these are helping you
1. In response to Isaiah 45:7
This shows the Soverignity of God over all creation. To understand all these verses, you must do what so far you haven't done and I' ve tried to show you how to do. Look at a verse in the context of the chapter and book it is found in. Here Cyrus is being addressed.
Now Cyrus was the king of the mighty Persian empire following the fall of Nebudchanzer. He was a king heralded as a sympathetic ruler who allowed the Jews who had been in exile to restore their temple in and it's fittings. Under Cyrus's rule, Daniel and others of those in exile prospered
Now, why was this so extraordinary? Cyrus had been named by God long before he was born. Cyrus hadn't even been born at the time you are reading about in Isaiah. Infact, it wasn't for another 150 years that he appeared as the king of the Persians. The exile hadn't happened yet, the temple had not yet fallen
what follows is what is called predictive prophecy. It is a prophecy of the fall of Israel and their exile into Bablyon and the rise of Cyrus as a tool in his hands. The verses you mention are part of that prophecy to show that God .. THE GOD of the Isrealites is also in control of the rise and fall of all other nations.
2. You are right when you say on face value, that is what these verses seem to be saying, but they contradict everything the bible says about Jesus. He forgave His enemies whilst they crucified Him. These verses, again, when read in context mean only one thing. NOTHING in this world, must take His place in our hearts and minds and devotions. The world levels lots of accusations on believers for many, many reasons. Hypocracy being the main one. Jesus hear is talking directly to believers and is challenging them to put Him first, and to literally "hate the things they hold as more important in their lives" He promises them, that whatever they give up on this earth for his sake, they will never regret. They will receive it all back.
And on the contrary Sane, if everyone lived this way, there would be no starving hungry children in the world, because we would be reaching out and loving them in His name. Selfishness, greed etc which is in the end the real cause of starvation would be unheard of. God is harsher in dealing with his people on this attitude of service and reaching out to a hurting world than with any nation that doesn't know Him. "Judgement begins with the household of God".
finally.. "Let us make man in our own image."
Yes. you are right here Sane. God is talking about a multiple of personalities when he uses these terms and no there is no mistake in the way they are used.
Let me show you what the original says in the Hebrew text it came from
In the Hebrew there are three numbers.. singular (one), dual (two) and plural (more than two). The word for God in Gen 1:1 is the plural form of God , indicating at least three persons, but the verb created is in the singular form. Here you have the first verse of the Bible and the first evidence of the Triune God Head.
Now look..
in verse 2 you have the Spirit of God hovered over the waters (the Holy Spirit)
in verse 3 and God said.. You have the Word of God (Jesus Christ compare with John chapter 1)
in verse 1 God is God the Father
Now this follows through into Genesis 1:26 Let US make man in OUR own image.. so in the image of God (plural) He (singular) created them.
this continues throughout Genesis
the same idea is found in Genesis 3:22 (the man is become like one of US)
and in Genesis 11:6-7 ... the Lord said ... "Let US go down".
From these verses.. right at the beginning of the Bible, is the evidence of the Tri-une Godhead.. not three Gods, but three Persons expressed in the one God.
I hope Sane, what all my answers have shown is that to understand Bible verses you have to ALWAYS read them in context and with an understanding of the history and reason the book was written in the first place and if there are verses which seem to not make sense, before "jumping to conclusions" check the original language and meaning and it easily explains the text.
Please keep asking questions, and don't worry if you have more questions arising out of what you have read here. I've only just touched the surface in my answers.
