Buddha, Hinduism, Mithraism, Baha'i, & etc.Well, love me all to hell...I'll make it simple:
"He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love." 1 John 4:8 (KJV)
"And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him." 1 John 4:16 (KJV)
(underline emphasis added)
"The eternal God is thy refuge (...)" Deuteronomy 33:27 (KJV)
So A) God is love, and B) God is eternal, i.e. above time, therefore:
C) Love is beyond time
This means that no amount of time can exhaust love. God sends misbehaving souls to endure suffering because He loves them and wants them to realize that being separated from Himself they will only endure pain. In this way, a perfect loving God punishes as a means for rectification. He doesn't punish simply to punish. A loving God is not a sadist.
