Buddha, Hinduism, Mithraism, Baha'i, & etc.Well, love me all to hell...Actually it does. Your response specifically addressed my being to blame for living in sin. Since I was not arguing who was in blame, your response therefore cannot be directed at me. Hence a straw man argument. Or, accepting hypothetically that I was arguing who is to blame, your point becomes a non sequitur. It does not follow that because I am to blame for living a sinful 80 years, therefore a transcendental loving God would send me to suffer endlessly. So you have a choice now: Straw man or non sequitur. We do not disagree here. But the concept in Buddhism is that this individualistic life is illusory. So on that basis, even though it is not humanly practical to live this philosophy, they feel that perfection means negating all desires to the point of bodily death when they will merge into homogenous oneness with everything.
What do you know of the individual I quoted in my signature?
Why does it seem this way? I understand and agree. Therefore our "work" is to develop our love for God. That is our faith evidenced. Otherwise, if we are not developing love for God, then that is evidence that we haven't faith. In this way everyone can understand that works are intricately tied with faith. A perfect love never condemns anyone to everlasting torture. A perfect love is beyond time (just like a perfect God), and therefore no amount of finite time can exhaust God's love. Because this is what you are saying: That God's love is exhausted by time. You think this because your sense of love is exhausted by time. If you try to show love to someone, but they continue to treat you badly, eventually you will become exhausted and reject their association. In this way, you are the one who is bringing God down to your level. I am simply accepting a transcendental, perfect, loving God and remaining consistent in that understanding. Whatever word in the original Hebrew or Greek text of the Bible that has been translated as 'eternal' or 'everlasting' regarding a soul's torment in hell is obviously either a mistranslation, or not literal. |
