Heterosexuality Discussion ForumMasterbation is >Not< a sinAll words have many shades of meaning, often outright different meanings. We are technically classified as animals (we fit the first definition you posted), but we're not "animals" in the sense that "he's just brutal... he's an animal". And yeah... there are species that can communicate like we do, we just can't understand them. And yes, we're the only ones that keep written records, but we haven't done so for very long. Monkeys pass on information to their young. For example, if a particularly intelligent Macaque learns a new, important thing (in the case of coming into contact with something adventitious to its environment, such as a human-made object or food item, and how to use/eat it), within a few generations, its entire island will know how to do it. That can't happen without communication. These monkeys have vocabularies upwards of 100 words naturally, and more can be developed in circumstances like this. In fact, scientists have trained them (as I'm sure you know!) to be able to speak English (by typing, or in sign language, as obviously their vocal cords aren't formulated well enough for speech.. they can only speak a very few words). And humans are the only creatures with the means to record things... even excluding the millions of species which simply don't have hands, those that do don't really have access to pencils or paper |
