I pretty much agree with everything you've just said. Nevertheless I still regard it as a trivial issue; if I wanted to become straight I would be looking ahead at how to change and would only pay any attention to why I'm bisexual if it benefited me in some way with regards to the changing process - which I'm sure, as you say, it can do but it's still secondary to the changing itself.
Just a reminder: I'm not trying to raise the issue of whether or not homosexuality is morally justified with you so there's no need to try to engage with me in that way (for I get the impression - and correct me if I'm wrong and I'll apologise - that that is what you're trying to do). I have no ambition to change your views (as I'm fairly sure that's an impossibility) and am being inquisitive for my own benefit rather than anything else. If I wanted to vouch for homosexuality being 'normal' as opposed to 'an abomination' then my argument would move more into debating the overall truthfulness of the Bible rather than fiddling around with the specific meanings of single words or wondering what causes it or not. Within the context of that 'if' discussion I don't see being attracted to those of the same sex as a bad thing, therefore I don't care what causes it.
Regarding your suggestion of more research into the science behind homosexuality, I would be interested to do so when I have the time (which I don't, frankly). Still, isn't that part of the point of forums? To slowly leech information from other people's posts? So effectively I am 'doing research' into the religious attitudes towards homosexuality by talking to people on this forum. It's all a fun learning experience, this life thing! *On that note, throws a teenage party with too many drugs involved and not enough buckets for people to vomit in - "it's all ok guys! Don't worry, be happy!" and so on with the reputedly blind lets-not-take-life-too-seriously optimism*.
