Science, Creation & EvolutionQuestions from Christian to Atheist or Evolutionist :: ...... By initiator, I assume you mean what was the beginning, not “who” made it all begin. Honest answer: I do not know. Where and how it all began is beyond current scientific knowledge. I have some views on this and some basic understandings about how it all may have come about, but there is currently no answer with which I am currently satisfied with. I n contrast to what I do not know, I can share something that I do know. There is no magic in it. However it began, there were rules and patterns by which it came to be. Through these rules and patterns, the universe and life therein came to be as you see it today. That statement is more an opinion and based on conjecture than on anything based on fact, but I will provide a response none the less. You state that the complexity of DNA points to an intelligence that must have been involved. It follows that, by logic of this argument, that the intelligence that created the complex DNA must itself have been even more complex. Being more complex than DNA, then too this intelligence must also have been created by an even more intelligent intelligence. And so on and so on. This is a logic loop that cannot, by its nature, have an end. Again, there are hypothesis that attempt to explain the initial formation of life on Earth. Currently, again, there are not single answer I can point to and say “that is it”. But, again, I can tell you that there was no magic involved. The process followed set laws and patterns. Evolution is not an attempt to explain the origins of life, merely the diversity found therein. Matter of any sort, dead or living, does not evolve. Living creatures evolve. Matter is simply the stuff living creatures are made of. Again, this is pure conjecture and opinion. Purpose, or the lack thereof, is determined by humans. It is just as valid to state that all things in the universe have no purpose. I can, however, answer your question. The reason man and any other living creature exists is to exist. In the end, all living things are here to replicate themselves. I will provide a correction: there is such a thing as asexual reproduction and in some species there are both. Indeed, some species can change their sex between male and female forms. Species; now, then or in the future; do not need to be born through the female reproductive system. Nothing evolves into existence. Things evolve from previous existence. The physical makeup of Earth is different today than it was when life first formed. While it is accurate to say that life cannot form in the same way that it did in the beginning, it is grossly inaccurate to state that life cannot form on Earth today. However unlikely, it is still possible, and nothing has not decided “it stops now”. Evolution never starts nor stops. Nothing decides what a species will or will not evolve into for any reason. Living organisms evolve as a result of small changes to their genetic coding. Some of these changes result in advantages, some disadvantages. Those that are advantageous have a greater chance to be passed on. Through minute changes over time, big changes can be seen. Nothing has decided anything. There is no “stop”. |
