One thing we often lose sight of in discussion of whether we are at the end of days is the impact of repentance. I would quote the king of Ninevah, who having heard Jonah's message of impending destruction on his city, repented and said:
"Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?" Jonah 3:9
the response of God to Ninevah's repentance was:
"God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said he would do unto them; and He did it not." Jonah 3:10
I am not saying that the events prophesied in Revelation and elsewhere in the Bible will not occur, but instead that we need to be careful not to assume that our particular generation is beyond hope. If we preach Christ and the message is accepted, who knows whether judgment may be deferred to another time. Let's hold to our responsibility to be the messenger to our world that Jonah eventually was to Ninevah. And unlike Jonah, I hope we will not resent God's deferral of destruction if the world does turn.
The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance." II Peter 3:9
