It's not contrary... as I see it.
The huge faults you see upon the earth, is where the water squirted upwards... when the water goes up, the earth goes down... which means space gets really really thight, and so mountains start to grow, etc... and where it doesn't fit nicely, it keeps schrugging sort to speak...
I could be wrong, but so could you science has it's way of changing it's opinion about stuff constantly take a look at astronomy, and how idea's have changed constantly as new things were discovered... science is everything but stable...
