It does make sense when you understand that women could be Nazarites, which means they could not drink anything alcoholic. Numbers 6:1-4
1 Again the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2 "Speak to the sons of Israel, and say to them, 'When a man or woman makes a special vow, the vow of a Nazirite, to dedicate himself to the LORD, 3 he shall abstain from wine and strong drink; he shall drink no vinegar, whether made from wine or strong drink, neither shall he drink any grape juice, nor eat fresh or dried grapes. 4'All the days of his separation he shall not eat anything that is produced by the grape vine, from the seeds even to the skin.
NAS
Also why did Jespthah's daughter ask for a 2 months delay? Judges 11:37 And she said to her father, "Let this thing be done for me; let me alone two months, that I may go to the mountains and weep because of my virginity, I and my companions." NAS
Why weep for her virginity if she was going to die?
What I'm puzzling about is why did she want the 2 months before her father honoured his vow, what was it about the vow that she was trying to delay.
I could see why she would want the 2 months if she was going to die, hey it's an extra 2 months to live. And believe it or not, some people are actually afraid of dying as virgins.
I could see why she would want the 2 months if she was going to become a Nazirite, that's 2 months to party, have some wine, and for some people maybe a little sex.
Just trying to understand what she wanted to do before the vow was honoured, I mean, she would have plenty of time to cry afterwards wouldn't she?
