I wrote a poem in college -- many years ago -- and God answered 'yes' and now I can look back on my life and see just how much He answered "yes".
Jesus, Lord, this is my prayer
That I will see and I will hear
The stories of the world around
That I'll not to myself be bound
Or to superstitious fear.
I do not pray for fame or place
Help me seek the inner grace
Of living for a fellow man
Of sharing smiles when I can
Oh, keep me living face to face.
Jesus, Lord, this is my prayer
That when you call I may be there.
I pray for ears to hear Your Voice
I pray for strength to make the choice,
But, mostly, help me keep aware.

I wrote this one the same year. My sister put a tune to it.
I find my life in love
But it's the kind that stretches out
To every man on the highway
In the city
All about.
I'm a rebel.
I cannot seek but what I find
Though it's not what I'm expecting
I don't mind.
I'm a rebel
Let me travel, let me stay,
For no matter what the way
I will live my tears and laughter
Today and all days after
I'm a rebel.
Restless people
Eyes fast closed
Searching ever
Wand'ring hungry;
When they cannot find the dream that they seek
They get angry.
And when I see them groping
Some are searching, some still hoping
I thank God
I'm a rebel.
For I find my life in love
And I find meaning in just caring.
Though I know betrayal's pain
I keep coming back again
To take whatever life is bearing.
I'm a rebel.

Just wanted to add something else to this discussion...
I also do not want to get up and do the dishes....
