ArchivedThe Truth and truthsAlpha, you are absolutely right. The simple things are easy to figure out. It's the more subtle things that we need to rely on the capacity and desire the Holy Spirit has instilled us with to flesh out.

10 For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. 11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man, which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things freely given to us by God, 13 which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words. 14 But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. 15 But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no man. 16 For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he should instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ.

You have questions God has answers and He has already answered the questions all mankind has as to how to live a life that glorifies Him. Those answers are found in His revealed truth - The Bible. Any answer you receive from any source even though you label that source the Holy Spirit is a spirit of deception.
Hmm, we seem a little less far apart now... but still not quite there... I'll quote from another thread I just posted in:
Of course I'll be assesed based on my actions, and not what I understand - because my understanding is hopelessly small and limited by my mortal humanness. I'd be screwed if I had to take a test on "All Things You Could Possibly Have Known" - on a test like that, God would get 100%, and my score wouldn't even register as a percentage, because I know infinitely less than He does. But I know that each decision that He places in front of me (not in front of you, in front of me) He gives me the capacity to know what the right thing to do is. He gives me the capacity to know that right - He doesnt give it to you to tell me. He gives you your right answers for whats in front of you. And I believe that we both have sincerely chosen correctly at times, and at others not. Know this: the only person marking our scores for right and wrong is God. This is not grade 1, where you pass your test to the person beside you to score (my seat partner always screwed me over for marks when that happened, grrr, lol). And its a good thing, too. We'd all have at least one person condemn us to hell if it was up to each of us.
The Holy Spirit reveals truth to me - not to me through you. As He has revlead it to me, I know I'm on point, so your assessment is irrelevent.
But what's great is the peace that comes from knowing that I'm in the hands of a just and good God, who, as Origen says "confers benefits justly, and punishes with kindness." So, I'm not a bit worried as to the outcome. I know I'm not perfect, and that if it isnt clear now, it will be when I'm in front of Him. And I wouldnt have it any other way.
