ArchivedInterpreting the Holy Book. :: Re: LeonRe: Leon Greetings in the name of Christ. Leviticus 24:16 [NIV] anyone who blasphemes the name of the LORD must be put to death. The entire assembly must stone him. Whether an alien or native-born, when he blasphemes the Name, he must be put to death. Deuteronomy 17:12 [NIV] The man who shows contempt for the judge or for the priest who stands ministering there to the LORD your God must be put to death. You must purge the evil from Israel. No, these are two instances where Mosaic Law requires that one be put to physical death. Leviticus 24:16 requires that someone who blasphemes must be put to death, while Deuteronomy 17:12 requires that someone who shows contempt towards a judge or priest during legal proceedings must be put to death. Thus, these two Scriptural references do not refer to spiritual damnation in hell. Are you advocating the idea that God pre-determines or predestines who is saved and who remains unsaved, as in Calvinistic predestination? If so, can you provide Scriptural prooftexting to support this idea? This is non sequitur reasoning. Just because God can do something does not mean that he does it. Yes, many self-professed Christians do think this way. But that does not make it right. This thinking is flawed because the arbitrary labeling of certain Scriptural passages as literal and non-literal renders Scripture as a subjective and meaningless text. Put another way, it is a method of arbitrarily altering the meaning of Scripture. Instead, one must interpret Scripture consistently. And the only reliable methodology of interpretation is to interpret the entire Bible literally, while letting grammatical mechanisms within the text signal when a passage is non-literal. |
