Second, I think the most noble reason a person should come to a discussion board is to learn or to share what they learned and ideally both of course. Thus, when a person is using poor reasoning in their writing in terms of logic, there is nothing wrong with pointing it out. It is not arrogant to point things out when you see other people err. Here is why:
Now do people often dislike it when err is pointed out especially when it comes to logic (admitting you made a less than logical post is not fun ). Of course. I do however, usually add a link the logical fallacy being used (unless it is obvious like a bandwagon/ad populum ). Therefore, I do not think the understandability issue in terms of logical fallacies applies. By the way, I have nothing more to say about my pointing logical fallacies out in others. At this point, I think we should agree to disagree if we still disagree on this matter. Lastly, I have not looked into the speed of light issue although I am aware of it. And although I am not a Baptist I did "tag team" debate a guy with Helen Setterfield at a Baptist board. Since birds of a feather flock together, I would hope Mr. Setterfield is as reasonable as his other half and that his speed of light work is correct. |
