Sorry, have to offer my 2 cents here
Truth is something that can be proven. If religion were provable, it wouldn't require belief and faith. Using the word truth when talking about religion is a mistake that people frequently make - your truth is not my truth - it's a matter of opinion And of course, the same goes for me - my truth is not your truth. That doesn't make either of our beliefs any less valid, it just means we have differing opinions.
Atheism is a religious stance. Simply because someone cannot believe in the concept of a deity does not mean that they are closed-minded, it simply means that they have not seen sufficient proof (for themselves) to believe in a higher power.
And since I'm on the subject Being openminded is alot easier than believing. I can say I'm openminded to Christianity - I have said it before, I *could* be wrong about my own beliefs. I have not seen sufficient evidence to think that anyone else is more right than myself, however, so I *choose* to believe in something that feels right to me. It is all opinion. If we were "closed-minded" to Christianity, why would we be here? I'm interested in learning about the faith - that doesn't mean I have to believe it. Do you see the subtle difference there?
I'm sorry if this comes off as angry - I've had far too many closed-minded Christians attack my own beliefs to be able to let this go...
GM: You have shown yourself to be very tolerant of those of us that are here and aren't Christian - for that I give you thanks You aren't the only one, either, and my thanks are extended to the rest that are willing to grant those of us with differing opinions, the right to have differing opinions. As much as it shouldn't be, that is a rare commodity in this day and age.
