You are correct that Easter was originally a pagan celebration but then so was Christmas, but that is beside the point. The original manuscripts read "Passover". The chronology goes Passover and then the next day the first Sabbath of the Feast of Unleavened Bread. You are adding to what is written and changing historical truth. Herod was a Jew and I really doubt he would offend the Jews by celebrating a pagan holiday in Jerusalem. You can try to rationalize the use of Easter in lieu of Passover in Acts all you want the truth is the Holy Spirit inspired Luke to use the word "pascha", not Easter. Also, as you point out the KJ translators translated "pascha" as Passover in other verses. In fact of the 29 verses where "pascha" is found only Acts 12 replaces Passover with Easter. |
