The KJV and the NKJV are word-for-word translations that use what is known as the Textus Receptus manuscripts. The NASB is also a word-for-word translation but it uses the Majority Text manuscripts. Any of these are probably the best for in depth study. The NIV and most other modern translations are what is known as a dynamic translation, which means they translate concepts and are not as good for word studies and etc. Now the KJ only crowd will disagree with me since they believe the KJ is the best and only accurate translation. Personally I use the NASB but I also use the KJ since both have their advantages and disadvantages. |
