ArchivedWhen CHILDREN ask about JESUS CHRIST.My question is why is it assumed that the Bible is the only explaination? There's another thread that I've posted in here that questions the validity of Biblical Prophecy (I don't know if anyone's responded to that yet, I haven't gotten that far today ). "An" answer isn't necessarily the "correct" answer. For thousands of years people saw the sun rise in the east and set in the west and the answer they came up with was that the sun travelled around the Earth. They also saw ships disappear over the horizon and assumed that the Earth was flat and when ships disappeared it was because they were dropping off the edge. Both of these "answers" were (for the time and science (including exploration)) extremely valid answers. They were logical and they explained the phenomena that people experienced. They were also 100% wrong. As I said in the other thread - if you want to impress me about Biblical prophesy, give me a future date and a specific event to watch for - I will. The fact of the matter is that much like Nostradamus' work, the Bible is written in such a vague manner (as well as having been translated through multiple languages which changes the meaning) that virtually any major event can be accepted as prophetic, Biblically. I remember hearing that the "Beast" in revelations was Saddam Hussein (in the early 1990's), and read stories that Adolf Hitler was the Beast spoken of in Revelations. In the 80's during the Cold War, I remember plenty of people (religious leaders, as well) claiming that many of the metaphores in Revelations were talking about the Soviet Union. Now suddenly it's Osama Bin Laden (or was a handful of years ago), and I'm sure the next time some horrible little man decides to dictate to the world that he will do whatever he feels, he will become the new "Beast". As a matter of reference, I am a Pagan. I do Tarot readings, I know about Astrology, and have cast Runes a time or two. None of these things showed me the future...was I surprised? Nope. However neither did the Bible - which honestly, as a Christian, did surprise me. I have experienced Deja Vu (which it is assumed is prophecy) and I have seen some pretty odd things. Miracles? I've witnessed plenty - every time I see the sun rise and a spring rain I'm amazed at the beauty of the world. Does that mean that it *had* to have been created or caused by God? Nope. That's a conclusion without any logical train of thought. If you want to believe it, it's not my place to tell you not to, however I (personally) can not. Man...you know...I don't know why I go on these endless rants...it's not like I'm saying anything you haven't heard before |
