A homophobe fears the advances of a homosexual, fears being around a homosexual, or fears that someone near them may secretly be a homosexual (and they might just come out). The obvious guiding emotion here is FEAR.
A bigot doesn't fear the above, rather (s)he detests the above. The guiding emotions in this case are ANGER and HATE.
(Note the progression of emotions - fear -> anger -> hate - then read my signature and understand why homosexuals feel that they are suffering.)
A homophobe will, if they permit themselves to be, become a bigot under certain circumstances. If a homophobe is propositioned by a homosexual enough times, the fear might turn to anger and a new bigot is born when the macho heterosexual considers the homosexual advances to be an affront to his masculinity.
Personally, I've never taken the advances of gay men any more personally than I would have taken an advance by a woman. Actually it's rather flattering to have a homosexual man ask me if I'm interested. I've never actually taken up any of the advances, but I've never reacted in anger either. I've always politely told them that I am not gay, but I appreciate their interest.
Christians on an individual level are often either homophobic or a bigot. This obviously is not be true of all christians, but unfortunately it is how they come across. Since perception is reality, the inconsiderate bible-brutalization of homosexuals creates the appearance of christian homophobia. It doesn't help when you have people like Jerry Falwell (of Tinky-Winky Teletubbie fame) and radio-pastor Ernie Sanders out of Ohio (AM 1220) spouting bigotry in the name of god.
And since the thread originally asked if we are homophobic, I'll let you know that I scored a 33 - Non-homophobic.
