Interesting topic
I'm a big fan of the movies...I haven't read the books - I've been rather obsessed with Terry Pratchett for awhile While I can accept that Harry Potter does glorify an extremely Hollywoodized form of Magic, it does not, IMO, glorify Paganism or Wicca. Perhaps Witchcraft, but only because Witchcraft does not rely on religious beliefs, whereas Wicca and most forms of Paganism do. Harry Potter does not glorify a religion - I've seen no religious connotations in any of the movies at all, TBH.
Aside from that, however, I'm curious as to why this is a problem. I realize that this is me (a Pagan) posting on this (a Christian board) so I expect a wide range of responses - not the least of which will be inflammatory. In the United States we have plenty of freedoms - most of them allow you the opportunity to cause yourself (or others) harm. While we have laws limiting those rights (after the fact, albeit), as a general rule we can harm ourselves if we so choose.
If you view Harry Potter as harmful (which in the context of fiction I most certainly do not - even from a Christian perspective), what right does anyone have to prevent people who are not Christian from pursuing that which keeps them entertained?
I know it's slightly off-topic - perhaps if it's too much so a moderator can give this it's own thread.
As a side-note: Warlock is a Scottish word meaning "Oath Breaker" and has nothing to do with religion.
