ArchivedQuery...Justin, first of all I suggest you review out Forum Rules. I deleted your email address as sharing such information on a public forum is contrary to those rules. A superficial reading of this can lead one to understand Paul is only addressing idolatry but when you take vs. 18-32 as a whole this is clearly not the case. Also when you put Romans within the full context of Scripture your interpretation can be shown to be false. If you have studied Israel’s contemporary cultures at the time of God gave Moses the Law you would have discovered that Hebrew women had more rights and freedom than their contemporaries. So you analysis of Leviticus lacks any real historical truth. The man was the head of the household (as Paul points out in the NT), but Hebrew women were not considered chattels under the Law. For instance should a man decide to divorce his wife he had to return her dowry. You really need to study the Law before you continue with that line of thinking. As to "arsenokoites", the word is found in ancient Greek. All known references to arsenokoit* Now why did Paul use "arsenokoites"? Most Biblical scholars agree that Paul and other Jews of his period used the Septuagint (the Greek translation of the Hebrew Scriptures). "Arsen" and "koites" are used in both Leviticus 18:22 and Leviticus 20:13. Therefore we can understand that Paul and his readers understood he was referring to the prohibition against male/male sexual relationships found in Leviticus. I would encourage you to read "A Strong Delusion, Confronting the Gay Christian Movement" by Joe Dallas, an ex-gay man who also came out of the UFMCC. It is one thing to try to show the "clobber verses" are mistranslations or misunderstandings of the Bible; however it is another thing to show that God ordained same gender sexual relationships by quoting His rules for such relationships. Does your study include such information after all God gives very specific rules concerning heterosexual relationships? |
