Being obtuse and attempting to obfuscate the reality of the APA decision only demonstrates you are willing to appeal to deception and faulty studies by so called science. The APA made its decision based on the findings of Kinsey (whose studies at the time had been already been discounted as false); Hooker (whose study was bogus); a coalition (conspiracy) of other psychiatrists including gay psychiatrists; and pressure from gay activists. This is what can be proven.
Studies other than the Netherlands study published in the Journal of General Psychology since 1999 demonstrate that on a whole homosexuals are at greater risk for mental health and medical problems. The fact you discount the Netherlands study as irrelevant only demonstrates that you pick and choose what to accept and reject as truth.
As to why you appeal to the APA, if real science practiced outside the social-political agenda of high ranking psychiatrists had been used the DSM would still include homosexuality as a treatable condition. The fact is only 25% of the APA membership approved the 1973 action, which was then dictated by the APA's Board of Trustees.
Also, The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) does not include all issues that can be treated by psychologists. Even if (and I am not saying I totally agree) the APA decision was based on sound scientific studies this does not prove that some people with a gay orientation cannot or have not changed their sexual orientation.
I just wanted to thank you for letting the Lord use you to build a wonderful site of testimony. I too once lived as a Gay Christian, working in several MCC Churches as a lay minister. My former partner and I also founded a Church and developed a weekly Bible Study. I also created an online group for gay and lesbian Christians. I have come to realize that homosexuality is a sin and is not God's intention for mankind. I have been learning to walk free from homosexuality for the last three years. I happen to run across your site and it blessed me so much that I wanted to just drop a line and say thank you for sharing your testimony with us. May God continue to bless you efforts in helping others find freedom from same sex attraction.
I received this email last week. One tool used by God to help men and women walk free of life dominating sin is proper psychological counseling.
As to the studies I quoted, spontaneous change of sexual orientation has nothing to do with Kinsey, Hooker, or any other expert you care to name. There are people with a gay orientation who developed a gay orientation because of home and societal environment and have changed.
