Abortion Memorial ServiceUnborn babies feel pain!Lets assume that you are correct, and that i did approach the research with a rather biased mind (which does have some truth to it, i admit). You still have yet to state why my dismantling of the argument was incorrect. The fact remains that the experiment was fundamentally flawed, based on their own research. If the test was flawed, then the results are flawed, and while can still be considered a possibility, they cannot be considered true. Depends. Again, at the 3rd trimester a human being has distinguishable brain waves, which promote the possibility of a conscious human being. After the third trimester, it is possible that this situation could be considered a double murder. While I would agree that pro-choice is a rather "delicate" selection of word, the term anti-abortion is in no way derogatory at all. You are against abortion. This is a clear distinction. Anti-life is a much larger leap of logic, since the very nature of life is the question at hand. Too be fair, the term pro-life is done in a similar way, as is the term anti-life. The two were both chosen to make one's own argument look good, just like pro-choice. Yes, it is. What you just said is EXACTLY my point. An unborn child does not have 10 seperate finger until a certain point in the pregnancy; just like every other human aspect, a child is not conceived with 10 fingers. Those fingers develop at a later time. Not only is this a perfect example of the "Appeal to Motive" fallacy, it also assumes that every report that has added proof to the "anti-life" argument is written up by a biased party. ***** Edit: missed a part in there Fair enough, i failed to show what a human being is, but i did show what a human being is not. Following the logic i begn above, a creature requires a certain aspect in order to be considered human. The existence of the soul is an argument unto itself, so we are going to ignore that one, as it is largely faith based. Clearly, an arm cannot be considered a seperate entity, so anything included in said arm also does not matter. That rules out DNA. This also discounts the idea that anything resulting from an egg and sperm are human, as my arm came from such a union. It cannot be considered any part of the physical shell, as those parts can be changed while maintaning one's own humanity. For example, if someone has a heart transplant, then they are still the same human being, no? Anything that eventually will become a human also does not qualify, as eggs and sperm have the possibility, given the right conditions, to become a human being. So what is the qualifying characteristic for human life? Human Conscious. Imagine that a man named Tom is in a horrible car accident. As a result, every single part of his body, excluding the brain, is replaced. Is this new creature still Tom? Or is it a completely different person? The most common answer is that yes, this is Tom, he's just taller and smells funny. Now, let us assume that this same Tom is in another car accident, and in this scenario, his brain is destroyed, elimination and conscious. As a result, they replace said brain with someone elses. Is this new person Tom? Of course not. It was the brain, and conscious inside of it, that defined Tom as Tom. But, you might say, why wouldn't the brain itself be considered the aspect of humanity? Well, lets assume that the original Tom is in yet another car accident (Tom is a very unlucky guy). This time, his brain is damaged, and his conscious is completely lost. Somehow, the doctors are able to replace the Tom's conscious with someone else's conscious. So, a new conscious, who used to be owned by a man named Jack, is now in Tom's body. This new person is now Jack. Despite having the same brain, and the same body, the conscious is completely different, therefore deciding the difference between human beings, and by extension, the definiton of a human being. If you think that this argument does not pertain to humanity, only certain humanity, change Jack with his dog Spike. Is Spike a human? Well no, he's a dog trapped in a human body. |
