And? Your point is? It is still a mutation with a positive effect that can be utilized to slow down or stop the progression of a disease. ASnd frankly, the idea of anyone with HIV ever mating again, considering the risks to their partner, and contracting Hepatitis sickens me to no end, and anyone who would be on CCR5 supressants should bloody well be celibate.
In view of the HIV pandemic it is odd that anyone would engage in sexual activity outside a monogamous heterosexual union. So your argument falls flat. The point is a rare mutation that protects against one disease fascilitates another in people who are not HIV+. So what you see as a beneficial mutation is in reality not a beneficial mutation.
A monogamous homosexual union BTW would also prevent the disease
But actually if you look at the selection coefficients, it is. WHile it grants complete immunity to one disease, it only(and this was one study BTW, I would like to see it replicated) helps along another. And until it is replicated I wouldnt trust that single study necessarily.
