Fornication And Adultery is a Sin!Ok, so I just got done sinning...
I myself have wondered whether there was anything wrong with two consenting adults having extra-marital sex. But at that time I was wandering between religions. I thought that the rules against it were for the sake of protecting the "rights" of the woman's father, that extra-marital sex was seen as "soiling" the father's property - I viewed this as sexist. But let's suppose that marriage was eliminated completely, do you think we would live in a better world? I see marriage as something that would protect your rights as a potential father, if you're not married you have no claim with respect to custody if your relationship breaks down. I see marriage as something that would protect her rights as a potential mother, if you're not married she can't claim child support if your relationship breaks down. These are just examples, and they're based on the assumption that sex leads to children which isn't a correct assumption in this day and age. And they're based on an assumption of the man being the bread-winner which isn't a correct assumption in this day and age either. I'm not trying to push any kind of view on you, that wouldn't be possible. But how do you think the world would be if everyone chose to have sex and not marry? I'm not going to criticize your relationship, I'm just wondering how you would feel if sex outside marriage was as prevalent as the grass is green. I think the issue has more to do with the effects on society as a whole and not the effects on the individual. But it does take an awful lot of individuals to make a society. What do you think? |
