ArchivedAnswering Aineo. Then this "breath of life" is the eternal soul. Otherwise, the conception that the soul begins with the flesh-body is inherently similar to the atheist conception that the soul is merely a product of material arrangement. Both constitute the soul's dependency on the birth (or conception) of a material body. I do not subscribe to such a dependency of the soul. The only thing the soul is truly dependent on is God. The material body is given to the soul because the soul desired to enjoy the material facility. God prescribes that we use the body as a means to an end rather than an end in itself. That is the disease of the conditioned soul; we are trying to enjoy these bodies as if that is the be all end all activity of existence. The summum bonum of life is to love God. So God gives us instructions on how to use the body to worship and love Him. I didn't say that Adam and Eve's sin has not affected us. I said that they did affect us, but that we are prone to that affection due to our falling in the first place. If we had not sinned as individuals then we would not be prone to suffering the effects of the sins of our ancestors. I am first of all responsible for falling into sin, then, because of that fall, I incur the sins coming down from Adam and Eve. Why do you make this example of Christ? Are you comparing Christ's suffering to the suffering of sinful creatures? I agree that Christ did not suffer due to His sin (because He is sinless), but what does that say for the sufferers of sin? I am not Christ. I suffer due to my sin. Jesus ignores both implications and gives an alternative third answer. He does not say that the sin is from the parents or the man. He does not say that it is from "sin in general". |
