Christian/Muslim ThreadsWho is Barnabas and What is the Gospel of Barnabas?
Abdurrahman, I'm not here to qualify the Bible above the Qur'an or vice versa, but the Bible has the benefit of being here first. What I will say though, is having been muslim for three years previous to this one, I never once found the Qur'an to be a more interesting or inspiring reading material than the Bible. In the Qur'an there are Biblical prophets and non-Biblical prophets. The Qur'anic accounts of the missions of the Biblical prophets are very dilute, and devoid of interest. We are usually given something like remember Noah and Lot and Abraham, they were righteous men, or remember Yahya and Iesa and Zechariah. Remember them from where? (We remember them from the Bible) The non-Biblical prophets in the Qur'an are given a poor quality description when compared to the Bible accounts. The best that the Qur'an comes up with is Salih, who tied a camel and said do not kill her, but they hamstrung her and God punished them. I quickly become bored from reading the Qur'anic accounts about the prophets, and so would children. But the Bible, is full of interesting stories and parables, and even children apreciate them. The Qur'an appeals to previous scripture, but you claim that the previous scripture no longer exists. Does the Qur'an appeal to the testimony of a dead-scripture? Where is the support if it no longer exists? Does the Qur'an appeal to the testimony of a false-witness? Where is the support if it is rejected as lies? You can't have it both ways. If you wan't to prove the authenticity of Muhammeds messengership by using the Bible, you have to agree that the Bible is a trustworthy source, otherwise you can't prove a thing. You can't deny the fact that the Qur'an appeals to previous scripture, and since the Qur'an is allegedly preserved for all time, then its appeals should stand for all time. And if the appeals stand for all time, the previous scripture must also stand for all time, otherwise you nullify the word of the Qur'an. |
