ArchivedPA officials guilty of blatant violation of First AmendmentI have to respond to this one point. This is a bad analogy. If people are SEEKING for information from the religious side regarding homosexuality, they can go somewhere to find it. A church, library, internet, possibly even a monastery or convent. To go to a demonstration by homosexuals protesting for equal rights and abolishing of bigotries and start preaching anti-gay religion....well, this is equivalent to the ranting and raving person in the bar. Christians are putting themselves in the forefront and claiming their belief should be held superior to laws for equal rights. With no evidence other than belief in an unsubstantiated book with no evidence on homosexuality, just words saying it's wrong?? Not only Christians are homophobic or bigoted of course, and I'm not saying they all are either. There are some very moderate Christians that believe in the inspiration behind the scriptures but don't believe in "sola scriptura" inerrancy, and choose to believe the Bible has it wrong about homosexuality, but there are still a hard core that fights this. So the people going to this demonstration are deliberately antagonizing the other side. Even though they may be doing it "peacefully", the soft-gloved punches coming from them still send a message of severe condemnation. "Your actions are evil, they are immoral, they are wrong in every way, they will eventually lead to eternal torment". Fine, that's a belief. That's nice. Got any evidence to back up this charge other than a 2000 year old book of tribal myths? You do realize that unless all major aspects of the stories can be objectively verified, (particularly God), then that's the only fair designation you can give it? Doesn't mean it isn't TRUE mind you, but it's certainly not proven. So why are they out making such a public scene against the demonstrators when they can't prove their beliefs? Belief without corroboration should never be pushed so vehemently. IF people choose to come to you, then that's fine, but trying to convert people or their supporters, who are fighting for secular human rights on an equal footing is extremely rude. It's the wrong place and the wrong time. |
