Religious Cults & False Prophets~ Discussions and DebatesFEW WERE SAVED BY WATERLet's talk about Acts chapter 8" "But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. Then Simon himself believed also; and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done. Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he [the Holy Ghost] was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost." (Acts 8:12-19) It is obvious that speaking in tongues was the sign when the Samaritans received the Holy Ghost. Notice this first; although the Samaritans had "believed" it is evident they had not yet received the Holy Ghost. According to others including you Aineo on this forum when one "believes" they are already saved thus having recieved the Holy Ghost already. That is not the case here is it? Even though they believed they still had to have Peter and John pray and lay hands on them to receive the Holy Ghost. Secondly, it is evident even when they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus - not the triune formula, Father, Son, Holy Ghost; they still did not receive the Holy Ghost either. So now it is possible to "believe" and still not have the Holy Ghost. It is also possible to be baptized and believe and still not have the Holy Ghost. Third, it is evident when after hands were laid on them that something supernatural happened for Simon to offer money "for this power". What happened when hands were laid on? The answer is found in Acts 19:6, "And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues...". If they spoke in tongues with the laying on of hands in Acts 19:6 why would it be any different in Acts 8:19? I myself received the baptism of the Holy Ghost evidenced by speaking in tongues by the laying on of hands. Moreover, I have personally laid hands on many others for them to receive the Holy Ghost evidenced with speaking in tongues. How can you be so willfully blind? And by the way, it does not matter in which order one is baptized and receives the Holy Ghost. Some receive the Holy Ghost before baptism and others receive the Holy Ghost after baptism. (see Acts 10:44-48 and Acts 19:1-7). The point is in both cases they were baptized in Jesus' name and they received the Holy Ghost evidenced with speaking in tongues. Tell me Aineo, why was it necessary for the Samaritans to be baptized if they already "believed"? And why was it necessary for Peter and Paul to come all the way from Jerusalem to lay hands on them if they already "believed" and were saved? It is because they were not saved until they fully obeyed Acts 2:38. My post "ROMANS 10:9" addresses this issue in more detail. |
