The vast majority of medical opinion is probably not what you think it is. Although both APA's and the AMA have taken a public stance that homosexuality is innate, immutable, and unchangeable the opinions among members of the both APA's and the AMA is split and not all agree with the party line. Do an Internet search on anal cancer and you will find that gay men are more at risk than heterosexual men. The subject of medical and psychological problems among gay men has been discussed on other threads with data from Europe and the United States that is irrefutable and shows that gay men are at higher risk for mental instability and some medical issues. The Netherlands study published in the Journal of General Psychiatry is among the latest to be published. What is interesting about this study is it was done in a country where homosexuality and gay marriages are legal and generally accepted.
Since you are happy and at peace with your sexual orientation then I hope you are filled with unspeakable joy and enjoy your life to the fullest. However, for those who are not as secure in their identity as you are and are seeking something better for themselves why would you try to show them they or we are wrong? Is our opinion so necessary for your self-image you cannot accept they we simply disagree with you? To be perfectly honest before I started my own investigation into the causes of homosexuality I could have cared less what the straight world thought of me as a person. My family, employers, and friends were not bothered by my orientation so why should you be bothered by our opinion? And now that I have changed my orientation I still could care less what others think of me. I don't need their approval to live a happy and productive life.
Personally I have had more grief sent my way for being an obese, left-handed youth who wears glasses (before I lost 110 lbs) than I ever experienced for being openly gay.
I will support your right to equal rights in this country how about doing the same for me? Or would you repeal the 1st Amendment?
BTW, just because your personal experience contradicts what we can show to be true in the development of a gay sexual orientation does not invalidate these truths for other people.
