Answer to poll question
"What makes you gay?"
Answer, None of the above.
Male homosexuality is a psychological pathology with a dual cause.
The first cause is genetic. Since the Human Genome Project has succeeded in mapping the human genome we now know a lot more about our genetic makeup than we did just a few years ago. It has been found, through a study of male homosexuality by the CDC, that the tendency toward male homosexuality derives from the X (female) chromosome, specifically q28X. Male homosexuality, like color blindness, is passed from the mother to her son. It has also been determined that q28X has a penetration factor of from 50 to 70% with most estimates at the mean 60%. This produces an emotional sensitivity to environmental pressures that can cause male homosexuality.
The second cause is environmental. Conventional wisdom still believes that either the physical or emotional absence of a strong father-figure can trigger the genetic pre-disposition and create a male homosexual. A boy will naturally desire an emotional relationship with a father-figure. When that father-figure is either physically or emotionally absent, the boy will have an internal longing for love from a man. As the boy grows and goes through puberty his blood chemistry begins to change radically and he begins to eroticize his emotional needs into physical (sexual) needs, and seeks physical love from a man.
However, it should also be noted that genetic and environmental pressures are no excuse for sin. We are all born in sin, and we all have some besetting sin. When we place our trust in Christ, and rely on His grace, we can overcome both the genetic predisposition as well as the environmental imperatives, and are enabled by His grace to live Godly lives in Christ Jesus.
