ArchivedPriests referred to as FathersAieno Wrote: I am not the one that has a problem with the word "father", it is BX and tuppence that do. Here is BX original post; he has a problem with Catholics calling their priests by the title "father", he uses Matt. 23:9 as support for such a illogical position. Here is part of the reply of tuppence; As you can see based on a illogical unbiblical understanding of Matt 23:9, they agree with each other. Now my question is show me biblically why it is wrong for us Catholics to call our priests by the title "father", thats all I want. tuppence Wrote: In that passage Jesus criticized Jewish leaders who love "the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues, and salutations in the market places, and being called ‘rabbi’ by men" (Matt. 23:6–7). The passage is a admonition in response to the Pharisees’ proud hearts and their wanting to be "high ranked", or to have a high status. Jesus is not forbidding us to call men "fathers" who actually are such, either literally or spiritually, that would be simple silly. Peace |
