gerani wrote:"What would Jesus do? Jesus obeyed His own commandments the foremost of which is "love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind" (Matthew 22:37-40). In order to demonstrate your love for God Jesus equates obedience with love and God commanded that men should not bow to manmade images."
no, God said thou shalt not worship images and false gods. obviously if you were in japan, the main custom there is to bow to your elders. a deeper bow to ones you respect more. and people do the same to images of mary. because they represent and symbolize her, and they respect our Holy Mother.
Once again you are not seeing the whole picture found in God’s law:
.Deuteronomy 5:8-10
8'You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. 9'You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, 10 but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. NAS
Leviticus 26:1
26:1'You shall not make for yourselves idols, nor shall you set up for yourselves an image or a sacred pillar, nor shall you place a figured stone in your land to bow down to it; for I am the LORD your God. NAS
In case you missed this part of the 10 Commandments:
Deuteronomy 5:16
16'Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, that your days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with you on the land which the LORD your God gives you. NAS
Honoring ancestors is one thing venerating them to the point of idolatry is another.
