Christian/Muslim ThreadsWhat if Jews, Christians, Muslims follow their Holy Book?Well, for one thing, many of the verses you quote are Old Testament laws given to the nation of Israel. Israel was a theocracy - a nation whose leader was God. God set up these laws to ingrain into His people the fact He is God and that none other should be worshipped. These laws, you must remember, are not just set up to give people license to go around killing people. They were set up as a punishment for sin against an Almighty, holy God. Any sin against Him is punishable by death, so in reality, it is only by His mercy that any of us are even alive now. First, we'll thank you to not use profanity on this board. Second, the fact of the matter is that Jesus did love and pray for Judas for 3 1/2 years before he cursed him. Jesus knew from the beginning that Judas would betray Him. But instead of cursing him right away, Jesus called him to be one of His disciples, and He taught and ministered to him for a long time before He "gave up" on him. He had mercy on him by giving him plenty of time to turn around and truly be a follower of Jesus. If you knew someone was going to betray you (and in doing so cause your death) in 3 years, would you spend all that time loving and teaching them? Or would you despise them for what you knew they were going to do to you, and try to stay as far away from them as possible? Yet Jesus did just the opposite of what our selfish human nature wants to do (so in that sense you are right - love your enemy is against human nature). Our human nature is governed by sin. Jesus knew no sin, and he commands His followers to stay away from sin as well, so it would make sense that what He did and what He taught would go against human nature. You lack an understanding of what the overall view of the Bible is. Instead you pick little verses out because they don't make sense to you, and you try to use them to say Christianity is crazy and hypocritical. Stay around on this board for a while and ask questions - we'll be glad to help you understand the true teachings of the Bible. |
