Hi everyone.. as some of you know I’m new here so I hope you guys are gentle with me, I’m fragile lady : ).. So.. about this topic.. : -
1-I’m sure H2O mentioned those verses because they deal with advice god gives us regarding satan.. which is what this thread is partly about.
2-We believe in getting possessed and exorcisms, but we believe we can get possessed by jinns and not the devil. For those of you who don’t know what jinns are, we believe they are another creation of god (swt) living on this earth with us but in a parallel dimension. And like there are good and evil people in the world, there are good and evil jinns, and they have free will just like us.
they feel inferior to humans and many try to get into us and do whatever evil they want to do on earth. They can also posses animals. We believe it’s through jinns that people do magic since jinns have powers that we don’t have. and so to get a jinn to do something for them they have to practically worship it and praise it day and night, which is the biggest sin thus making them non belivers, thus making magic one of the biggest sins. (If you want to get technical, one could say that these evil jinns do evil in the first place because they choose to be influence by satan, and in turn satan is in them and driving them to do evil, thus blaming satan and saying that a person is then possessed by satan. But, that would be like saying that someone who is a rapist for example is the devil because that person is weak and is choosing to do evil, which satan loves, but no one can never call anyone the devil. Anyway, this is just what muslims believe about possessions and jinns)
3- Loki, The Quraan doesn’t mention a lot of things, such as how to pray, how to perform ablution, specific amounts to give to charity, and many other little details. The Quraan teaches the most important things we need to know for life, such human rights, inheritance issues, about heaven and hell, marriage and divorce, how to live a good life, and ofcoarse stories of past prophets and past civilisations with morals at the end of them to teach us how we can avoid being punished like them and what we can do to get to heaven, not to meantion a lot of verses about now scientific stuff, and many verses where god tells us to reflect on life and ourselves, and contemplate on his creation. The little details of life we get from the prophet moh’d’s sayings and actions. I’m not saying that getting possessed isn’t a big deal, but it doesn’t really affect us on a day to day basis, except for the person who is possessed.
4-The Quraan says that it in itself can heal anything.. faith is a powerful thing. So muslims have then taken that to mean that even if someone is possessed they can use the Quraan to get rid of the jinn, which is what they do. So these possessed people are taken to a religious guy and he reads Quraan on the person and other prayers and tries to talk to the jinn and reason with it and make it come out. Obviously this is really hard, so sometimes they kind of beat it out of them while reading and saying prayers. But they say the person doesn’t feel the pain at the time but I dunno about later on… hopefully not.
5-The Quraan is very different from the bible, while we believe the Quraan is entirely god talking to us directly, the bible is a combination of the actual words of god, some parts are sayings by jesus pbuh, and other parts are stories about prophets and writing by paul and his own personal life. It is so diverse which is why I’m not surprised it talks about people being possessed. but the Quraan is only 114 chapters dealing with details of how we can live a good life and about the past prophets and civilisations and how we can learn from their lives and mistakes. That is why we consider it the ultimate guide and inspiration. In the bible when paul talks about where he travelled and who he met it doesn’t do us any good personally, and doesn’t really inspire us to be better people, it’s just information.. and very good information for historians, but not for someone who wants to be inspired (I mean parts of the bible like that), although other parts of the books are very inspiring obviously.
I’m assuming the hadeeths (collection of the sayings of Moh’d pbuh) would have information on being possessed.
Hope that answers your question about what we believe.. this is all I know about it, so if you have more questions I’m sure other sisters or bros can help u out.
