ArchivedSin: Are we reconciled or are we not?OK, so let me see if I understand what you're saying: I would say that the true glory is in the fact that even though we do sin, God has redeemed us. Think about it this way: If we no longer sin once we get saved, where is the glory to God in that? All we have to do is trust Him one time (for salvation), and then never again. How glorifying is it if we never trust Him again? Also, if we never sinned after salvation, that would close the gap between how perfect Christ was and how imperfect we are. Is that glorifying? Didn't John say "He must increase, but I must decrease"? How else would yo define an "issue" in this context other than "not quite measuring up to God"? But I thought that's what sin was - "For all have sinned and come short of the glroy of God." I John 1 8-10 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. Doesn't make sense to be accountable for your thoughts and actions if you're guaranteed that they are never sinful. What's to be accountable for? If you don't sin ever again after you get saved, then God never has to rebuke you for anything ever again because you're always in the right. Let me ask you: has God ever rebuked you since you've been saved? Paul said in I Timothy "This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief." Notice what Paul did not say. He did not say "of whom I was chief." He said "of whom I am chief." This implies that he still sinning, that he was still a sinner while he was writing to Timothy, and the pastoral epistles were the last ones he wrote...... unless you believe Paul wasn't saved when he wrote all of his letters. |
